Many, many years ago I started a food blog. At first my photos were disastrous, I didn’t have a clue about what I was doing. I was perusing other food blogs and seeing these incredibly composed images set in beautiful light and I just knew I needed to learn more.
The first thing I did was learn how to use my camera properly.
I have worked with Fraser’s Catering, Heyder & Shears, Hadiqa, Tiisch Cafe, Foragers Field Kitchen, Littlesweet Baking, Latasha’s Kitchen, Detail Marketing.
This part of the workshop is designed to demystify manual camera settings. To save you the trouble of spending hours (weeks, days, months) trying to wade through endless online tutorials, I will walk you through your camera settings. No technical lingo, no fancy tricks. If you haven’t shot on full manual yet I can guarantee this part is a life changer.
If you already know how to shoot on manual fear not, this part doesn’t take long and we’ll be onto the next part super quick.
We will cover the fun stuff like composition, how to use natural light to highlight the wonderful features in food, various styling techniques, and how to use props in a way that doesn’t leave your image looking too contrived and over-styled (less try-hard and more fabulous). We will have different surfaces and props available for you to style up until your heart’s content. We’ll be spending most of the time hands-on so less sitting around going through notes and more play time. I’ll also show you how you can set up right on your dining table with stuff around your home to take delectable food photos!
So what do you do with that beautifully styled photo once it’s taken? You edit it, of course. Bring your laptop if you have Lightroom on it (or we can use mine) and I will run through how I’d edit one of your photos. Just for fun.
This gathering is designed to have you making the most of your photography and styling skills. I’m a prolific over-sharer so you can ask me anything! It’s an approachable, no-ego setting where we all share our experiences over good food and wonderful company.
*Please note, skills are transferrable across products as well so if you have a product bring it along on the day and we can have a play styling it up and photographing it.
